If you are a fan of Swagger, get ready to rejoice as you will see a more in-depth backstory of two characters portrayed by Quvenzhané Wallis and Isaiah Hill. The journeys of “Crystal” and “Jace” are about to expand on the upcoming season of the popular AppleTV+ series as the characters make the jump from high school freshmen to senior year.
“Our season one took so long because of the pandemic,” Reggie Rock Bythewood, creator of the series, said in a recent interview. “The kids just kept growing. So I felt in order to feel authentic, I needed them to be their true age. While I portrayed them as seniors, my youngest son, was a senior in high school at that time and he was going through all this angst of where he was going to go to school and put his life together. It was really great to deal with all that stuff in real time.”
If you are familiar with the series, then you know that “Crystal” and “Jace” have been friends for a long time, so it will be interesting to see how their relationship is taken to the next level.
“It was interesting,” Wallis said in an interview of the pair’s on-screen journey. “It was a lot of ups and downs but we had a lot of fun with it. Every moment that we had together on screen, we made the best of it.”
The young actor continued stating that filming this new season wasn’t as straight forward as usual due to other contractual obligations, but Hill and Wallis magically made it work.
“Q was rushing in from another movie that she has coming out,” Hill continued. “We just really wanted to own it this year. We didn’t want to rush it. Sometimes we did. We found magical things and made discoveries.”
Wallis said in the same interview that she has learned everything from her character as they “grew up together.”
“We grew up together. She is the person that I want to be. A person that I want to channel. Her swagger is so unreal that I hope to be like her. She’s a superstar and I love her dearly.”
In addition to Wallis and Hill, Swagger stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Shinelle Azoroh, Tristan Mack Wilds, Caleel Harris, Tessa Ferrer, James Bingham, Solomon Irama, Ozie Nzeribe, Jason Rivera, Christina Jackson, Sean Baker, Orlando Jones, and Shannon Brown.
Season two of Swagger is now streaming on AppleTV+. Tune-in binge and make sure to catch up on season one first!
